Temporary Service Alterations - Services 23 and 24V
From Monday 2nd February, there will be changes to the bus times for Service 23 (Lerwick to Toft) and Service 24V (Integrated Service to the North Isles) due to road works in the North Mainland.
A temporary traffic regulation order is in place for roadworks on a section of the A968 north of Voe, known as the ‘Dales Lees’ road. This order restricts the weight of vehicles to those under 7.5 tonnes beyond the Collafirth junction. Roadworks are also in progress at the Nesting Junction on the A970.
Services 23 and 24V will divert through Brae from Monday 2nd February until the end date of the traffic regulation order, which is Friday 29th May 2026.
To allow passengers to continue to meet scheduled ferry sailings, the diversion through Brae means changes to bus timetables as follows:
Service 23 Lerwick to Toft
From Monday 2nd February until further notice:
- The service will NOT serve the Nesting Junction stop in either direction
- Passengers wishing to travel to Nesting can use Service 20 which will link to the Service 23 at Girlsta bus stops during this period – this is a bookable service and passengers must book by 16:00 on the day preceding travel via ZetTrans on 01595 745745
From Monday 2nd February to Friday 29th May inclusive:
- The 17:10 departure from the Viking Bus Station will move to 17:00, Monday to Saturday
Service 24V North Isles Integrated Service
From Monday 2nd February to Thursday 19th February inclusive:
- Depart Tesco at 13:30 and Viking Bus Station at 13:40, on Mondays
- Depart Tesco at 13:50 and Viking Bus Station at 14:00, Tuesday to Saturday
From Friday 20th February to Friday 29th May inclusive:
- Depart Tesco at 14:10 and Viking Bus Station at 14:25, Monday to Friday
- Depart Tesco at 13:45 and Viking Bus Station at 14:00, on Saturdays
Shetland Islands Council and ZetTrans recognise that slightly earlier departures may cause inconvenience to some passengers during this period.
These timetable alterations represents the least disruptive option overall, as holding ferries or changing multiple connecting services would have significant impacts across the wider inter-island network.
