The inter-island air service offers a quick mode of travel to Shetland’s most remote island communities. The service is provided by Directflight under contract to the Shetland Island Council and is based at Tingwall Airport. Operating Britten Norman Islander aircraft well suited to the local environment the service provides links to the islands of Fair Isle, Foula, Outer Skerries and Papa Stour.
The provision of inter-island flights is vital to ensuring the future of these communities. In addition to allowing access for the island residents the flights also offer an essential service to the increasing number of tourists interested in visiting the numerous points of interest that Shetland has to offer.
