The current COVID-19 pandemic has seen the introduction of social distancing on board public bus services. Although this introduction (currently at 1m on services across Shetland) reduces the social distanced capacity of the vehicle, the legal carrying capacity is unaffected. This increases the importance of information provision, to enable passengers to plan their journeys and make informed choices. This page has been constructed to enable this forward planning.
The link embedded in each date on the calendar will take you to the passenger numbers for that date. The table shows the service number and description, the departure time and departure location, arrival time and location, the social distanced capacity of the vehicle used and the actual number of tickets sold. The tickets sold have been coloured coded for ease of interpretation, with green indicating that the social distanced capacity was taken up at between 0% and 74%, amber indicating that social distanced capacity was between 75% and 99% and red indicating that social distanced capacity had reached or exceeded 100%.
This information will be added to on a regular basis to provide a continuing picture of bus service usage against social distanced capacity of services. Readers are reminded that the ongoing alterations to COVID-19 restrictions will impact upon the numbers of passengers travelling and this must be borne in mind when making journey decisions.
At the present time, this information covers mainline services only.
Passengers are reminded that face coverings on board public bus services are mandatory, unless medically exempt. Cash fares remain at a position of exact fare only.
