ZetTrans to set up Area Transport Forums

19 July 2019

ZetTrans, Shetland’s Transport Partnership, is looking to establish Area Transport Forums across Shetland to help understand transport needs throughout Shetland and to support the planning and monitoring of services into the future.

The Area Transport Forums will provide the basis for ongoing dialogue on transport issues with individuals, communities, interest groups and businesses across the isles.

Forums will cover the following areas: -

  • Central Mainland, Scalloway, Burra and Trondra
  • Lerwick and Bressay
  • South Mainland and Fair Isle
  • West Mainland, Papa Stour and Foula
  • Whalsay and Skerries
  • North Mainland
  • Unst, Yell and Fetlar

Forums will take place twice yearly with the first round scheduled for late August and early September this year.

ZetTrans is seeking nominations from community bodies together with individual representatives from across Shetland.

ZetTrans Lead Officer Michael Craigie commented, “It is important that ZetTrans connects with people from all over Shetland and from all walks of life. We are particularly keen to hear from local businesses, health care providers, patients, carers, students, education and training providers, families with young children, people with mobility or access needs, elderly people, those on low incomes, and current or prospective users of public transport, active travel or car sharing. Participation in the forums will make a real difference and will ensure that communities are actively involved in ongoing service provision in Shetland.”

If you are interested and would like to be involved as a member of your local forum, please send your contact details to zettrans@shetland.gov.uk or telephone ZetTrans on 01595 744868 before the 31st of July 2019.
